St. Martin de Porres Hospital, Agomanya, on Saturday October 1, 2016, held a grand durbar to climax a year- long celebration of events marking the 70th Anniversary since the establishment of the hospital.
The Celebration was under the theme “70 years of Providing Quality Healthcare; Prospects, Challenges and the Way forward”.
Among dignitaries present at the celebration were Mr. Samuel De Graft Adjaye, Accra Main Branch Manager of the National Investment Bank, Nene Sakite II, Konor of Manya Krobo Traditional Area, Most Rev. Joseph Afrifah Agyekum, Bishop of Koforidua Diocese and Episcopal Bishop for Health, Mr. Peter Yeboah, Executive Director of the Christian Health Association of Ghana (CHAG)and a representative of the Director of the National Catholic Health Service, Mr. Gabriel Nii Otu Ankrah.
In his keynote address, Bishop Afrifah-Agyekum, admonished staff to regard and exhibit such virtues as sacrifice, commitment, honesty and dedication, as their contribution towards the healing ministry of Christ.
The Hospital Administrator, Mr. Osei Owusu Bempah, in his welcome address, paid glowing tribute to the founder of the hospital, the late Bishop Joseph Oliver Bowers SVD, who established the hospital in 1946 as a Clinic and Maternity Centre.
He also praised the efforts of the pioneers, Sisters of the Handmaids of the Divine Redeemer (HDR) , through whose efforts the hospital has made its modest impact in the community.
Citations and awards were presented to retired, long-serving and other deserving staff.
Fraternal Messages were received from the National Catholic Health Service (NCHS) , Christian Health Association of Ghana (CHAG), Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association and the Krobo Traditional Area.
Also present were representatives from sister facilities and institutions.
