The General Manager of Chiropractic & Wellness Centre (CWC) at East Legon, Accra, Mr. Gideon Lamptey, has advised the public to regularly check their spine to ensure health security.
According to him, the lifestyle of people, including sitting, walking and sleeping could undermine their health in the long run.
“Therefore, you and your family should get your spine checked periodically to make sure you are living free from hidden spinal nerve stress and functioning at your fullest,” he explained.
Mr Lamptey was speaking at a ceremony to mark the 15th anniversary celebration of CWC in Accra last Saturday.
The celebrants began with a 10 km walk across the street of East Legon, toured the centre’s facility and had their blood pressure as well as body temperature checked by a medical team from the La Polyclinic in Accra.
The walk started from 6:45 a.m. along Pawpaw Street in East Legon and ended around 9:10 a.m. at the head office of the centre.
Stretching down the midline of the trunk from the base of the skull to the coccyx, the spine plays an extremely important role in the human body, as it supports the upper body’s weight, provides posture while allowing for movement and flexibility; it also protects the spinal cord.
Aside from the health benefits from the walk, participants used the occasion to communicate health message such as, ‘90 per cent of all diseases are health related,’ to the public.
The employees at the centre used the occasion to commend its founder, Dr Marcus A Manns, for his contribution to chiropractic health delivery across the country for the past 15 years.
Dr. Manns, the first medical practitioner to start chiropractic health practice in Ghana, started the practice in 2001 at the age of 27.
At 76, Ms. Comfort Fofo Sowa, a trader from Teshie in Accra was grateful to the centre for its health delivery, urging the public to make health security a necessity in life.
Other clients shared their testimonies of the health benefits being received from the centre.
“Medical doctors and health healers cannot tell if you are suffering from spinal nerve stress, hence, the need for a regular check of your spine,” one of the clients, Mr Yaw Mensah stated.
