On April 4, 2025, St. Elizabeth Catholic Hospital in Hwidiem hosted the celebration of the 33rd World Day of the Sick, bringing together patients, caregivers, clergy, and civic leaders under the theme: “Hope does not disappoint us, but strengthens us in times of trial.” The event was organized by the Catholic Diocese of Goaso, reflecting the Church’s enduring commitment to the sick and vulnerable in society. Presiding over the Eucharistic celebration, Most Rev. Peter Paul Angkyier (the Episcopal Chair for Health), reminded the faithful that Christ walks with us in our trials. He added that though illness is painful, it is also a pathway to deeper hope and trust in God. He also read Pope Francis’s message, encouraging all to become “pilgrims of hope.” The Holy Father reminded the faithful that suffering can unite us in compassion, creating bonds of trust and love that reflect Christ’s healing presence.
Also in attendance was Most Rev. Peter Kwaku Atuahene (Bishop of Goaso Dioceses), Osuodumhya Barima Apea Dwa Boafo II (Omanhene of Hwidiem Traditional Area), Nana Ataa Adwoa Agyeiwaa II (Queen Mother of Hwidiem Traditional Area), Rev. Sr. Georgina Quayson (Hospital Manager), Mr. George A. Adjei (Director of the Catholic Health Service Trust), Dr Lawrence Ofosu Adjare (Deputy Director of CHST), Hon.
